Currently, a tropical storm, Hilary is forecast to reach hurricane status on Thursday and remain a strong hurricane as it approaches the Baja this weekend. The tropical system will quickly run up the Baja coastline and may even landfall in Southern California, although it's too soon to be certain.chances increase Friday, peak between Saturday and Monday morning, and linger into early next week. The heaviest rain is most likely over southwestern Arizona and into Southern California.
For the Valley, periods of steady to heavy rain will be possible with scattered rain totals ranging between 0.1" and 0.5". Small areas of higher totals will be possible with any heavy thunderstorms. The track of Hilary will determine how much and how frequently Phoenix sees rain over the weekend. If Hilary tracks too far west, rain totals and overall potential will decrease. If the system runs over the Baja, rain chances will increase across the state, but the system may weaken too rapidly.While the system approaches and passes, temperatures will plummet. From a high of 105 Friday to a high of around 96 on Sunday. Early next week temperatures will slowly climb from near 100 Monday to near 110 late next week.
