The Sun Devils cruised to a 90-73 victory that enabled them to improve to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
"We were able to gets stops early and we were just clicking on offense. Des hit some shots early and we were spreading the wealth. Different guys were making shots and making plays, assisted baskets and it was coming in half court, coming in transition. But our defense was rock solid again, and it has to be on the road," Hurley said.
Just how bad was it? With 7:41 left in the first half and ASU leading 35-16, Cambridge missed a shot and the arena erupted with mock applause. In some ways Hurley said it was reminiscent of the Michigan game, played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, in which ASU shot 60% from the field and was never challenged.
ASU shot 52.4% for the game but was at 55.9% in the opening half. Desmond Cambridge led all scorers with 21 points while D.J. Horne added 15 and Devan Cambridge 14. There were 20 assists on 33 field goals, led by Frankie Collins with eight. Warren Washington had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.While the team's identity is in its defensive intensity, this was one of the best offensive outputs, which didn't necessarily surprise the head coach.
