Two horse rescue s in Arizona are bringing supplies to evacuated horses in southern California. Horses Help and One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue are loading a truck of supplies for horses evacuating southern California, and they need your help. Horses Help and One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue are teaming up, collecting donations and loading up a truck full of supplies to head to California on Jan. 17.
Owner and founder of One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue Stacie Thomas said this isn't the first time the group has lent a helping hoof to horses and animals in need. A few years ago, Thomas was contacted by an equine center during the Malibu fire, and after asking the community for help, they were able to drive a trailer out to help. 'We were able to help so many animals and people. We actually even got surrendered a little Chihuahua dog to come home and get adopted and everything,' Thomas said.'It was very heartwarming. This time, the organizations will be going to four locations where evacuated animals are being housed, including the Rose Bowl Stadium, Thomas said. Gregg Goodman, CEO of Horses Help, said the organization has always been an evacuation point for horses in the Valley. 'This is a good first step into supporting some really tremendous people trying to do a good thing,' Goodman said. Horses who have been forced to evacuate have needs that are more similar to humans than one might think, one of Horses Help's volunteers Crystal Haire said. 'People like to complicate animal husbandry, and it's really not, truly. Most topical first aids for people is usable for horses,' Haire said.'If you're going to bandage your kid up with it, it can be used on a horse too, truly.' For those interested in donating, you can check out the Amazon wish list created by the non-profits, or you can stop by Tacks Fifth Avenue, Horses Help's thrift store, and donate your gently used supplies there. Both non-profits also said that supplies for other types of animals, such as cats, dogs, chicken, goats and pigs are also needed. If you don't have any supplies or want to donate financially, you can donate through the PATH International Disaster Relief Fund here. The first truckload will be heading to California on Jan. 17. Additional supply runs may be made, so keep an eye out on social media for more information
