In the final high school swimming meet of his career, Gilbert Higley senior Keaton Jones broke the state record in the 200-yard freestyle.
Jones swam a time of 1 minute, 35.72 seconds to take the title in the Arizona Interscholastic Division 1 state finals Saturday at Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa.
"It's a good swim for where I'm at right now in the season," said Jones, who swims for Club Neptune."It's four weeks before Juniors and that's like three tenths off my best. I'm in a good spot. I've got four weeks to dial things in.""From yesterday to today, I felt way better," Jones said. Chaparral won by more than 100 points on the boys side and less than 50 on the girls side. This was a rebuilding year for the Chaparral girls. But rebuilding still is good enough to win state for the dynasty Firebirds.
"I feel amazing," Jahn said."The 50 free, I would have liked to have gone faster. But the 100 fly was actually a shocker."
