The man convicted of the 1980 killings of Patrick Redmond and Helen Phelps was executed by lethal injection Wednesday in Florence.

in Florence.Hooper's last words were,"It's all been said, let it be done. Don't be sad for me. Don't cry. I'll see you later, let's go," according to media witnesses.

In the moments leading up to his death,"Hooper was chuckling and interacting. He made his last statement and turned and waved to us, and he laughed again. He seemed to be a little concerned it was taking a while," Christie told media afterwards.“They put a sterile sheet on and used a sonogram to find where the femoral artery was, they prepared equipment, execution team member could not find anesthetic in kit, he turned to Hooper and said, 'I don't want you to hurt too much.

Hooper was brought into the room and he asked why all the guards were hiding their faces with balaclavas and sunglasses, Curtis said. Outside the Eyman state prison complex, a small group of protesters from Death Penalty Alternatives for Arizona gathered. The group has been present at other executions this year, holding the same signs which often read, “End state killings.”
