Arike Ogunbowale was incredible Sunday, but the Notre Dame star was denied another perfect ending.

“It’s my family,” Ogunbowale said after a 31-point performance that fell just short. “They’re the closest people to me. They’re supportive of everything. I was glad I was able to see them before I got to the locker room.” First, though, Jackson drove right by Jackie Young, guarding her out top, and then by Marina Mabrey as she tried to help. That play completed a game-high 26-point explosion for the senior guard, who came in averaging just 11.3 points.3.9 to play! #WFinalFour#NationalChampionship | @BaylorWBBpic.twitter.com/dHrFhp023M

“You can’t really do anything about that,” she said. “It just wasn’t meant to be. It’s tough. It’s going to be a hard pill to swallow. Things happen. I had a fun, great career here at Notre Dame, so I won’t let that define the whole four years.” Yolanda Ogunbowale, a former softball pitcher at DePaul University, offered some encouragement to her daughter as well.
