A child custody exchange went horribly wrong Saturday in Richmond , where a man allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at a woman's vehicle as she attempted to flee with three children in her vehicle.Police said at 6:50 p.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of Nevin Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers discovered an argument erupted during a child custody exchange. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim as she attempted to flee in her vehicle.
Shots hit the vehicle, occupied by the victim and three children -- two under the age of 2 -- but didn't hit anyone.Aided by outside agencies and a drone, police found the suspect, who had fled on foot, in the 3600 block of Barrett Avenue. With the help of a K-9, police arrested the male suspect afterward as he tried hiding under a house's crawl space. The suspect discarded the gun, which was reported stolen and was recovered by officers.
