The future is bright for the Historic Dupree School Community Center in Ashford.
On Tuesday, local and state leaders met to discuss big plans in the works, including an addition that will include a catering kitchen, an ADA ramp, and restrooms.
Steve Smith, the board chair for the Historic Dupree School Community Center, and Representative Paul Lee both believe this is an important project.“It’s something that can be used for a community center, something that can be used for a voting district, it’s just something that brings the community together and there’s nothing better and safer than a tight-knit community,” Lee said.
Smith also said that they plan to hold programs for farmers as well as community health programs at the school. The Alabama Historical Commission recently voted to approve the recognition of the Historic Dupree School. It just needs one more vote of approval from the National Park Service to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
