The Only Murders in the Building costars have been the subject of speculation all year.
And, as Streep’s rep told Vanity Fair ahead of the 2024 Emmys , they’re just that: rumors. “They are just friends,” Streep’s rep said this week via email. The two pinged audiences’ romance-o-meters in January, when they attended the Golden Globes together and looked quite cozy. Not so long before that, in October 2023, Streep’s reps confirmed that Streep and husband Don Gummer had quietly separated “more than six years” earlier after decades of marriage.
Sound familiar? Bill Maher is among those rooting for these two crazy kids, responding to guest Short’s insistence in January that “we are not a couple, we are just very close friends,” by saying, laughingly, that, “You should. Because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple.” Come February, the two were spotted out to dinner with a group of friends in Santa Monica.
