The international Relay for Life event is organised annually by the National Cancer Society Malaysia to bring communities together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have passed on and raise funds for cancer prevention and support services.
Last year the event was held in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and Penang on December 4. Participants started the day with a fun run/walk. The event continued with various on-the-ground activities like free health and cancer screenings, educational booths, games, and food trucks before ending with the Luminaria event in the evening.
The Sultanah of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Zara Salim, officiated the Kuala Lumpur leg of the event at the Malaysia Tourism Centre . Also present was the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Most Rev Julian Leow. The prelate has made time in the past few years to attend and render his support by meeting survivors, doing the laps, and joining the Luminaria session.
Members of Sisters in Christ, a Catholic cancer support group, appreciate the archbishop’s support and feel blessed by his presence.
