) - The Salvation Army ’s Angel Tree program is in full swing, ensuring that hundreds of children in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties will have gifts under the Christmas tree this holiday season.

If you need help this Christmas season, time is running out to apply. The organization has extended the deadline for applications until Thursday. Camille Gross, volunteer coordinator for the Salvation Army, has been a key player behind the scenes of the program for years.,”For Gross, the work is more than worth it.What keeps me coming back is seeing the joy of the mothers and the fathers or the grandparents knowing that their child will have a gift under the Christmas tree this year,This year, more than 500 children are expected to receive gifts through the Angel Tree program.

From Barbie dolls to build-your-own robot dinosaur kits, the program has something for every child. However, Gross noted that many families have been struggling this year.I’ve been interviewing families, several families that have been laid off from jobs, and they’ve never applied before.
