Rory Appleton: Here are few artists I'd love to see at an Indianapolis festival, both as a fan and critic.
I'd prefer the entire kick-drumming folk rock package, but Mumford's solo album is solid. Either would be fine. Please.The day I moved to Indianapolis, sight unseen, Phoebe Bridgers played TCU Amphitheater.
I spent about a week trying to calculate how I could land, get a rental car and drive my family to our new home, then leave them without food, furniture or a car at said new home to make it to that show.As it stands, I still have not seen Bridgers perform live.Appleton: What to expect from IndyStar’s new column? I’m not sure, and I’m writing it Bridgers and the fellow members of boygenius, her supergroup alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, recently announced their first full-length album. Bridgers and her label, Saddest Factory Records, are also part of the Secretly Group. Boygenius has already booked Coachella, and Bridgers has a run of stadium shows opening for Taylor Swift that will end in May. Perhaps some smaller festival gigs are on the horizon for either iteration?This is a total Hail Mary, as the band has been on hiatus for more than a year. Foster the People headlined WonderStruck, WonderRoad's sister festival in Cleveland, in 2018. But the group does not appear to have any immediate plans.Before I left my hometown of Fresno, California, Foster the People headlined a local festival. chastising my city councilmember, who was trying to block the 2018 performance at a local park because it might be a little loud. It was, and I hope he is still bitter about it.Our newsletter has the best concerts, art, shows and more — and the stories behind them Anyway, Foster the People gave a thunderous performance, but the band refused to play arguably its biggest hit,"Pumped Up Kicks" — a catchy tune you may have heard on TV commercials or at sporting events, which in actuality is a dark track with lyrics detailing a school shooting.a shooting at Santa Fe High School in TexasSome people at the festival, and on social media that night and the next day, were upset. One person told me he only bought a ticket to the festival to hear that song. I had been a fan of the group for years at that point, but my respect for them grew a great deal that day.
