Like the rest of the non-AI news, it sounds like mostly a performance update.
tvOS 27, the next version of the software that drives its Apple TV set top box. As of this writing, though, the company hasn’t yet published any material detailing the update in press releases or on its OS 27 overview page, so for now, we’re left to piece together tidbits of information where we can find it.of some of the changes coming in a brief frame during the keynote itself.
They include “an updated Podcasts app, as well as a new smart downloads feature, performance enhancements including faster app launch and Control Center loading, larger text size options for accessibility, and more. ” As the outlet notes, it’s not clear what all of that will mean.for the tvOS 27 developer beta.
One new HomeKit feature says that “When Apple Intelligence in the Home app is enabled,” HomeKit Secure Video recordings are “processed on-device and through Private Cloud Compute” to power the video descriptions and natural language search that the company announced are also coming later this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean any of that will happen on Apple TV devices, nor that Apple Intelligence features are coming to tvOS, but perhaps it means that the AI summaries and search will be available on the Home app on your Apple TV, too.
Apple had already previewed another change coming to tvOS in an annual highlight of future accessibility features: that Apple TV owners will finally be able to, which could make things easier to read for those with low vision. The company had also announced that its devices will use on-device speech recognition to automatically generate captions for users’ private, previously uncaptioned videos across its operating systems, tvOS included.
As usual, tvOS will be released this fall, alongside all of the company’s other software releases. And for the brave and impatient among us, Apple announced that developer betas of the new operating systems are out today, adding that it will release public versions of the betas later this month.
