Samba Schutte in Pluribus Episode 2

Several television shows inarguably have zero bad episodes. Critics and fans alike have named series such as The Wire, The Sopranos, and Succession as dramas that never failed to produce high-quality storytelling.

Vince Gilligan is directly responsible for creating two television shows that certainly live up to this standard; Breaking Bad and its spin-off, Better Call Saul, are both consistently named in lists of series with no filler episodes. Most recently, Gilligan's newest Apple TV sci-fi series could easily fall into the same masterpiece category. What Is 'Pluribus' About? Any fans of Gilligan's work — or anyone who loves great television — should watch his sci-fi drama, Pluribus. The series premiered on Apple TV last November, and by the time it wrapped up its first season, it had become the most-watched series in the platform's history . If you haven't checked it out yet, Pluribus is perhaps best enjoyed without reading too much about the plot itself before diving in. As a general overview, the show follows a woman named Carol Sturka , a romance author whose life falls apart after a mysterious global event. In one eerie moment, everyone on Earth melds into a collective consciousness, resulting in a creepy hivemind. The twist is that Carol, along with a handful of other people, is immune to this phenomenon. In this apocalyptic setting, you would think Gilligan would turn the series into a straight-up horror series. However, Pluribus takes a left turn by revealing that none of the Others want to hurt Carol. In fact, they make it their primary mission to ensure that Carol is happy. As the season unfolds, Carol must learn to navigate this strange new world. Posts 3 By Carly Lane Apple TV's 'Pluribus' Has Both a Suspenseful Premise and an Incredible Cast The brilliance of Pluribus is demonstrated through the show's genius blending of multiple genres. The horror aspects, especially in the premiere, offer a foundation for the series that allows for plenty of frightening suspense, but there are also moments of levity that Seehorn pulls off so well — and of course, the narrative's sci-fi elements ensure that you never quite know what's going to happen next with the Others. Even episodes that include flashbacks or explore other characters' stories end up just supporting the show's greater storytelling in a more fulfilling way. Gilligan is a masterful writer, but he also found the perfect person to lead his latest series. Seehorn is a revelation as Carol, absolutely nailing the depiction of a woman who doesn't always display likable qualities. Instead, Seehorn shows the viewer every aspect of Carol's personality, including the pain she carries, but she isn't the only impressive actor in the Pluribus cast. Karolina Wydra, as Zosia, perfectly portrays a member of the Others with both automated mannerisms and an emerging humanity. Carlos-Manuel Vesga is fantastic as Manousos — one of the few individuals, like Carol, who didn't initially succumb to the hivemind. His scenes have a fierceness that allows Pluribus to contain even more grit and mystery. Because of these stellar performances, none of the first season's episodes fail to move the story along in a compelling way. The most successful indicator of Pluribus' long-term success with viewers is that everyone seems to have a theory about what it's really about. Is this a sly testimony about the dangers of AI? Is it an inventive exploration of the stages of grief? The good news is you can watch the series and decide for yourself. Season 2 has already been greenlit, but it doesn't sound like it will be released anytime soon. With that in mind, Pluribus is just begging for a binge-watch so you can catch up on a season that's exceptional throughout all nine episodes. 10 10 Pluribus Like Follow Followed TV-MA Drama Thriller Sci-Fi Release Date November 6, 2025 Network Apple TV Directors Adam Bernstein, Zetna Fuentes, Melissa Bernstein Writers Ariel Levine 7 Images Close Cast See All
