Apple TV has plenty of sci-fi TV shows on its platform to please fans of all corners of the genre. Some shows like Severance are more grounded in the sense that they take place on Earth, while others like Foundation are based much more in hard sci-fi, taking viewers into space and to other planets.
Apple TV’s most recent sci-fi show proved that the streamer has every right to keep tapping into the genre, when Pluribus became the most-watched sci-fi show in the platform’s history. However, one of Apple TV’s longest-running sci-fi shows is For All Mankind, which is set to return with its long-awaited fifth season this Friday, on March 27. New installments in the 10-episode season will be released weekly until the finale airs on May 22. Early reviews of For All Mankind Season 5 arrived yesterday, before the premiere later this week, and critics have not been shy about making their thoughts about the sci-fi series known. Therese Lacson reviewed the fifth season for Collider, giving it 8/10 stars, highlighting its strong points as, “All of the seasons prior have a strong set of foundation for Season 5, peppered with a younger generation of characters,” and “The season is still heart-pounding, full of action and twists and hard decisions.” Regarding its drawbacks, she says, “The barrier to entry for Season 5 is extremely high, as it requires a refresher for the previous season.” At the time of writing, For All Mankind Season 5 holds an 86% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. While this may not be a great sign for the fifth season of For All Mankind, this score coming from only seven reviews isn’t anything to fret about. It could easily rise to the ranks of earlier seasons when more scores come in throughout the week, and only time will tell how it’s received by the masses. The show has already been renewed for Season 6, so it’s not like a more lukewarm reception could cause Apple TV to cancel the show after Season 5. It’s still unclear at this time when Season 5 will be released.
