Apple TV is making major waves with a two-season comedy-drama that’s effectively its answer to The White Lotus. In fact, the show is becoming more and more like Mike White’s acclaimed TV satire with each passing episode.
Pretty soon, it’s also going to be sharing a major cast member with the HBO series. Starring Jon Hamm as a hedge fund manager who turns to a life of crime when he loses his job and family, Your Friends & Neighbors mercilessly skewers society’s super-wealthy with jet-black satire in ways few other TV shows would dream of. Yet, it’s following a trend on the small screen that was begun by The White Lotus in 2021.
One of Apple TV’s best new shows of 2025, Your Friends & Neighbors is already well into its second season, but keeps getting better and better. Now that we’re seeing Hamm’s antiheroic protagonist Andrew"Coop" Cooper travel further afield to expand his criminal activities, the series feels more like HBO’s landmark satirical mystery series than ever.
Season 2 of this equally dark social satire is already up there with the best TV shows of Jon Hamm’s glittering career, with more episodes to come. Although Your Friends & Neighbors isn’t quite as bleakly hilarious as The White Lotus, it’s another sendup of social elites worthy of this comparison, with a central character who has more seasons in him.
Your Friends & Neighbors Is Apple TV’s Version Of The White Lotus The opening scene of Your Friends & Neighbors will feel familiar to fans of The White Lotus. The Apple TV show’s first episode starts with a dead body, teasing the idea it’s going to focus on a murder mystery, before taking us in a different direction altogether. This opening is surely a deliberate nod to Mike White’s darkly comic masterpiece if there ever was one.
What’s more, Your Friends & Neighbors delights in lampooning the luxurious lives and blissful ignorance of the top 1%, whose exorbitant wealth is so far removed from the rest of society that they don’t even bother hiding or protecting it. Beginning with the premise that Jon Hamm’s Coop decides to get one over his fellow ultra-wealthy suburbanites by stealing their prized possessions, the series has now expanded to incorporate new characters and settings.
Your Friends and Neighbors is even better in season 2 so far, in part thanks to the introduction of James Marsden’s modern-day Jay Gatsby, Owen Ashe. In addition, Coop ventures out to the exotic shores of Greece in the fifth episode of the season, bringing the show’s setting into line with each location of The White Lotus. Based on what we know so far about the rest of the season, he isn’t done traveling yet, either.
The White Lotus’ Michelle Monaghan Is Joining Your Friends & Neighbors In Season 3 Your Friends & Neighbors has been so successful for Apple TV that it’s already been renewed for a third season, and there’s a major addition to its cast for next year. Michelle Monaghan, who plays status-obsessed “older woman” and social butterfly Jaclyn Lemon in The White Lotus season 3, is going to join the show.

Monaghan’s previous TV and movie roles include Maggie Hart in True Detective, and PI Angie Gennaro in the Ben Affleck crime thriller Gone Baby Gone. It remains to be seen which side of the law she’ll be on in Your Friends & Neighbors, but she’s guaranteed to elevate the show’s already impressive cast. Alongside Jon Hamm, Olivia Munn and Amanda Peet, in particular, have been regular scene-stealers as Coop’s main love interests.
