Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, reported Tuesday the company has shifted its focus toward a car that has a steering wheel and pedals, with full autonomous driving only available on highways, after determining a full rollout of solely self-driving cars is unrealistic given existing technology.

Apple is also pushing back the date for any launch to 2026, according to Bloomberg, marking the latest reported delay following several other purported target dates for a car—someThe design remains in the"pre-prototype" stage, Bloomberg reported, with plans for autonomous capabilities now focused on letting motorists do non-driving tasks on highways, while being prompted to take back manual control on smaller streets and in bad weather.

Apple's stock following Bloomberg's story, dropping more than 2.5% Tuesday afternoon to $142.92, outpacing the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite, which went down 2%.
