Apple Maps' new “Detailed City Experience” feature gives users more realistic maps. This image shows the before and after experience for the West 7th Street bridge in Fort Worth.

The new features also include a windshield view for drivers. Apple Maps can now bring the camera view down to the road level. The update will make it easier to see upcoming traffic conditions and the best lane for an approaching exit when approaching complex interchanges,Most of the detailed city experience is automatically generated, apart from 3D landmarks like the AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Museum of Art, Reunion Tower and the Sixth Floor Museum.

The company said it started gathering information in 2015 by driving custom cars and flying planes with Lidar technology over millions of miles. Apple has previously said that faces and license plates will be automatically blurred so vehicles and drivers cannot be identified. The company will work with local transit agencies and local governments to keep the map up to date. Users will also be allowed to report any changes they may see, Apple said.
