Apple Halts Sales of iPhone SE and iPhone 14 in Several Countries Due to EU Charger Law

Apple has stopped selling the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 in 29 countries, including parts of the U.K., due to upcoming EU regulations requiring a common charging port (USB-C). This decision makes iPhones more expensive in these regions as the previously affordable iPhone SE is no longer available. The company cites compliance with the EU Common Charger regulations as the reason for the sales halt.

There are three iPhones in Apple ’s current range that have a Lightning connector: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE 3generation. The company has taken all three off sale in 29 countries, including one that’s part of the U.K. Will other countries be affected? Apple has now confirmed that you can no longer buy the iPhone SE or iPhone 14 in some parts of the U.K.

This situation is only likely to continue for a few months, since the fourth-generation iPhone SE could be with us as soon as March 2025, though latest reports suggest it won’t be as low-priced as the SE that’s just disappeared from shelves. Apple initially resisted this move, saying that such a requirement could stifle creativity. However, the change went through and Apple moved its iPhones to USB-C with the iPhone 15 onwards. All iPad, AirPods, Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard connectors, for instance, are also now USB-C only.

So, are you too late to get one of these phones if you live in the EU? Not quite. Third-party resellers are allowed to sell remaining stocks—the iPhone 14 is still on sale on Amazon in Spain right now, for instance. Similarly, Amazon Germany has the 3And the ban reaches further.
