Apple did the same thing with the base model M2 MacBook Air and M2 MacBook Pro 13 last year 😏 AppleM2MacMini AppleM2MacBookPro

und to be much slower than the M1 equivalents. Well, the tech giant has been found doing the same thing again, this time with the recently released M2 Mac Mini and M2 MacBook Pro models.

As reported by MacRumors, the base M2 Mac Mini with 256GB storage has slower read and write speeds compared to its predecessor. A teardown by YouTuber Brandon Geekabit revealed that it only featured a single 256GB storage chip, compared to the two 128GB chips of the M1 Mac Mini. Like the base model M2 MacBook Air, a single storage chip means slower read and write speeds as multiple NAND chips allow for faster speeds. Accordingly, the base model M2 MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch also have the same issue as its 512GB storage has a reduction in NAND chips compared to the predecessor.

Both the M2 Mac Mini and M2 MacBook Pro models deliver faster read and write speeds when the storage option is upgraded. So, if you’re looking to buy any of the new M2 models by Apple, do take this into consideration. What do you guys think about Apple downgrading the SSD speeds of the base models?
