Apple's gatekeeping could be coming to an end as the Digital Markets Act starts to bite.
The European Commission says Apple violated the EU’s Digital Markets Act over its App Store policies. This violation could end up costing the iPhone maker billions. Apple is allegedly in breach of the DMA for preventing app developers from steering their customers to other options for content and pricing, according to a report from the commission released on Monday.
“All developers doing business in the EU on the App Store have the opportunity to utilize the capabilities that we have introduced, including the ability to direct app users to the web to complete purchases at a very competitive rate.” This charge could mean a big fine for Apple. The EU could hit Apple with a penalty of up to 10% of the company’s global revenue, according to the Financial Times.
