If you have problems activating iMessage on an iPhone running iOS 26, you’re not alone. Here’s how to sort it.
Activating iMessage on an iPhone with a phone number has been a problem for some users. If it’s a problem you’ve been having, here’s how to fix it.First of all, don’t panic. The issue is solvable and anyway has only happened under specific circumstances.
These are that the problem could appear if you were trying to activate iMessage with your phone number if you have an inactive SIM with the same phone number as your active SIM. Oh, and it has only occurred if you’re running iOS 26.. You could notice that iMessages fail to send, with an alert reading “not delivered.” Secondly, you might see that text messages might only appear with green bubbles, that is, being sent or received as SMS or RCS messages. Thirdly, messages could be unexpectedly be sent using an email address and finally, the same number may be displayed in the Settings app. You’ll find this by opening Settings and choosing Apps, then Messages, then Send & Receive.Apple says that the solution is simple: remove or delete the inactive SIM and then activate iMessage. To do this, go to the Settings app and choose Cellular — called Mobile Service on U.K. iPhones.If you see two SIMs displayed with the same phone number, select the one that is no longer active. If that’s an eSIM, choose Delete eSIM to remove it. If the inactive one is the physical SIM card, the solution is even easier: take it out of the phone. Once you’ve done that, go back to the Settings app, and choose Apps, then Messages, and Send & Receive. From here, you can tap on the phone number displayed to activate iMessage. This should fix the problem. If it doesn’t, Apple has another support page with extra suggestions, including a version of turn-it-off-and-on-again,
