The second-generation earbuds were only released a year ago.
That doesn’t mean there haven’t been changes. Water and dust resistance has now upgraded. Where the last version of AirPods Pro had a rating of IPX4, that is, only water-resistance was measured, now it’s IP54, meaning there’s decent dust ingress resistance, too.
Controls have changed a little, so you can now mute calls by pressing the stem on the earbud, which is useful.New to these AirPods Pro, but also available on the Lightning second-gen version, is Adaptive Audio, which is very clever. It lets some outside sound in but stops it from getting too annoying . It means that if there’s a blender whirring away in the room, for instance, you’ll hear it all right but if that blender gets louder, Adaptive Audio can keep the volume where it is.
