‘The barber shops are the last sort of shops to be allowed to reopen so it has put a downer on things at the moment. ‘Particularly when lockdown first started lots of events were cancelled, so lots of theatre people, lots of freelancers, lots of self-employed people immediately applied for Universal Credit and started clocking quite quickly that the money wasn’t going to come through for a number of weeks.
‘We’ve seen a lot of spikes and I imagine we will see more over the next few weeks as UC doesn’t crack in for a lot of people, and as the furlough schemes come to an end.’
