m. Friday, a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the 2600 block of West Slaughter Lane. Investigators said the motorcycle left the roadway, and the rider, the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.The crash is being investigated as Austin’s 17th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 17 deaths so far this year, according to APD. At the same point in 2025, there had been 20 fatal crashes resulting in 24 deaths. The investigation shut down westbound Slaughter Lane between Brasher Drive and Piping Rock Trail for several hours as APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit and the Travis County Medical Examiner processed the scene. Police said the ongoing investigation has delayed detectives from responding to a separate auto-pedestrian crash that shut down U.S. 183 in northwest Austin, contributing to extended traffic disruptions in that area.The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
