Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State, Muritala Dukku, shares his thoughts withreceived defectors from the APC recently. How were you able to get them to join your party?
It didn’t come to us or to any Gombe State person as a surprise. Any patriotic person is expected to dump the APC and come to the PDP not because of politics but for the sake of Gombe State. This government is killing the very system or foundation that we know in the state. Ordinarily, it should be from the opposition that people will defect to the ruling party, but now, it is from the ruling party to the opposition party.
But the APC in the state insisted that the disruption of your party’s defection event was as a result of internal disagreement among members of your partyThe PDP in Gombe State is one and it has the goal of dislodging the APC. There is no such thing as internal disagreement. Our members are united and the common enemy is the bad governance of this administration.
With the level of violence experienced so far, do you think Gombe State will record a violent-free election in 2023? Yes, Gombe State is a Jewel in the Savannah; it is the pride of the North-East. There are certain standards that the state is known for. I’m very sure that our people will not be deterred by their antics. On the Funakaye attack, the plan was to disperse our gathering and chase our people away but our youths stood their ground. They didn’t allow that wish of theirs to manifest.
