A 17-year-old was said to have serious injuries after he was wounded in a shooting near the campus of Andrew Jackson High School, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to Lt. Silcox, with the Sheriff’s Office, the teen’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Police were dispatched to the area just before 3 p.m.
“I was walking to get my things from a class and all I hear is somebody saying ‘they’re shooting’ and kids started running inside the building,” recalled Shedricka Allen, a senior of the high school. “What I want the parents to know is: Your students are safe in our schools,” Burton said. “We don’t believe that the school is in immediate danger at all.”
