AOC calls out Senate Democrats on live TV
As Democrats struggle to advance their proposals for sweeping changes to infrastructure, voting rights and more, Rep. She argued these Democrats are “blocking crucial items in a Democratic agenda” for reasons she doesn’t believe “hold a lot of water.” Calls for bipartisanship, which have been cited by Sens. Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema in their opposition of certain legislation, are ineffectual, the New York congresswoman suggested, highlighting that Democrats couldn’t even get “10 senators to support a Jan. 6 commission.”
Ocasio-Cortez, who has repeatedly thrown her weight behind eliminating the filibuster, argued attempts to appeal to Republicans will ultimately lead Democrats to settle for “much less” when the party has the opportunity to “really transform this country.” “There’s a fork in the road,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
