Police believe the defendant and the victim were arguing over money just before the April 2023 killing.

OAKLAND — A 30-year-old man has accepted a plea deal and a 10-year prison term for killing a man last year in West Oakland, court records show.

Sean Bryant, of Antioch, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and received 10 years in state prison in connection with the April 2023 shooting death of 50-year-old Lannie Ross, records show. Bryant was originally charged with murder but prosecutors dropped that charge as part of the deal. Bryant and Ross were seen arguing about money on the 3200 block of Filbert Street, on April 9, 2023, when Bryant pulled out a pistol and shot Ross, according to Oakland police. The entire shooting was captured on a nearby surveillance camera that also contained audio of the argument and captured a distinctive tattoo on Bryant’s neck, authorities said in court filings.

In June 2023, Oakland police arrested Bryant in Stockton and he was charged with murdering Ross. He has spent the last year at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, which will count towards his prison sentence. He remains in the county jail awaiting transfer to a state prison, records show.
