Anthony Edwards scored 49 points, including 20 in the third quarter, to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 127-108 victory over the depleted Chicago Bulls.
Anthony Edwards erupted for 49 points, including a scorching 20 in the third quarter, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a dominant 127-108 victory over the depleted Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. Edwards showcased his offensive prowess, sinking six three-pointers and an impressive 17 out of 18 free throws. He also contributed nine rebounds, cementing his place in Timberwolves history.
Edwards tied Kevin Garnett for the second-most 30-point games and matched Karl-Anthony Towns for the most 40-point games in franchise history. Naz Reid provided a strong supporting performance with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Rudy Gobert added 10 points and 15 rebounds. For the Bulls, who were missing several key players due to trades and injuries, Coby White led the scoring with 20 points, and Nikola Vucevic chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulls were noticeably shorthanded, lacking the services of center Zach Collins, swingman Kevin Huerter, and guard Tre Jones following the weekend trade that sent Zach LaVine to Sacramento and Kings guard De'Aaron Fox to San Antonio. They were also without point guard Lonzo Ball (left knee injury management) for the second consecutive game after their victory over Miami on Tuesday night.Despite a strong start by the Timberwolves, who opened the game on a 22-4 run and led by 21 points midway through the first quarter, the Bulls battled back, taking an 82-79 lead with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter. However, Edwards took control from there, igniting a decisive surge for the Timberwolves. Following a Minnesota timeout, he drained a three-pointer and then blocked a three-pointer on the defensive end. Edwards continued his onslaught, converting a putback after missing a three-pointer and drawing a foul. He sank the subsequent free throw, giving the Timberwolves a 3-point advantage that they would never relinquish. Minnesota's shooting prowess was evident throughout the game, particularly in the first quarter when they connected on 9 out of 16 three-pointers, setting a new season high for any quarter.
