Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed Tony Burke will take on the Home Affairs portfolio in an expanded role on the frontbench, while Clare O’Neil will become the next minister for housing and homelessness. Tony Burke, the current employment and workplace relations minister, will become Home Affairs minister, immigration and multicultural affairs minister, and cybersecurity minister, as well as continuing his position as arts minister and house leader.
Housing and Homelessness Minister Julie Collins will become minister for fisheries and forestry and minister for small business, with Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil taking her position. “Claire of course is a great communicator. She will lead the delivery of our ambitious Homes for Australia plan that has been established by Minister Collins,” Albanese said. Senator Malarndirri McCarthy will replace outgoing Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney, as was widely expected.
