Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton, who plays Cassie, recalls Paul Rudd's comedy advice on set: 'He’s like, ‘If I could say one thing, don’t finish this movie and wish that you didn’t try that joke. Just don’t hold back, do it all.’'
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton recalls the sweet comedy advice that Paul Rudd gave her while on set. Serving as the start of MCU Phase 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see Scott Lang and those close to him exploring the wild wonders of the Quantum Realm. Peyton Reed, who directed both previous movies in the franchise, helms the upcoming adventure, which is written by Jeff Loveness.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The first Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania trailer has already shown off some of the father-daughter bond between Scott and Cassie, but Newton reveals in a recent interview with The Wrap that Rudd also served as a mentor on set. The star reveals that, during a break from filming, Rudd complimented her sense of humor and encouraged her to do more improvisation during her scenes.
“You know, we fell right into Cassie and Scott immediately. And we had some rehearsals, Paul was doing some improv, and I would just do a little bit. And when we started filming, we did a couple scenes with Michael [Douglas] and Michelle [Pfeiffer] and Evangeline [Lilly], and Paul and I were on our break. And he was like, ‘Listen, I can tell you’re funny. Just don’t hold back.’ He’s like, ‘If I could say one thing, don’t finish this movie and wish that you didn’t try that joke.
A variant of Kang, called He Who Remains, was first featured in the Loki season 1 finale, but the villain is slated to play a much more important role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang the Conqueror, as featured in the Marvel Comics, is a very powerful villain, and the character is expected to serve as the big bad in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and potentially also Avengers: Secret Wars.
It remains to be seen how Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will compare to the previous two films in the franchise, but the inclusion of Kang alone suggests that Scott will be tested like never before. Thankfully, however, Rudd's hero won't be alone in his quest, with Cassie set to truly come into her own not just as a sidekick but as a superhero in her own right.
