North Brunswick is the latest New Jersey town to announce a mask mandate as municipalities statewide have returned to the measure to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
The Middlesex County city joins New Brunswick, Newark, Paterson, Hoboken, South Orange, Montclair, Morristown and others,North Brunswick’s mandate, which was announced Thursday, goes into effect 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31 and will remain in place until Jan. 31, 2022. Anyone visiting any indoor place of public gathering will be required to wear a mask except when actively eating or drinking or “when socially distanced at least six feet apart from all others for an extended period of time,” according to the executive order signed by Mayor Francis ‘Mac’ Womack, “such as in an office setting when seated at desks, when performing for an audience or when conducting worship services.
Places where the mask mandate will be in place include, but aren’t limited to, government buildings, restaurants, bars, gymnasiums, dance studios, recreation facilities, retail stores, cafes, supermarkets, places of worship, commercial establishments, salons and barbershops, banks, health care facilities and hotels, officials said.COVID-19 has been tearing through the Garden State the last two weeks.
