An invasion of the meddlesome ant species has residents at wit's end as the insects crawl through rooms, destroy wiring and even make their way onto unsuspecting faces.

Yellow crazy ants spit acid and can be devastating to wildlife, and an infestation has been confirmed in the Whitsundays area. "We have an Airbnb on the property too, so when the guests have been up there, I've had to actually say I'll come up and vacuum every morning," she said.The critters that 'like to move up to 50 metres a day'
But he warns the ants are a fast-moving problem, and there is a possibility the infestation could spread further."The reason why we add a buffer is because these little critters like to move up to 50 metres a day, so our infestation boundary isn't precise and can move over time."But he said that a treatment launched by the council in May has led to a reduction in numbers, with a follow-up treatment planned for August.
