University Heights resident Tina Byer delivered an affidavit of recall to city hall Monday starting a second attempt this year to oust from office Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan. This attempt follows by two weeks a City Council censure of Brennan for a Facebook posting he made following the Nov. 5 presidential election.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- For the second time this year, a recall effort has been launched against Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan.

He also stated that residents of precincts H and I -- largely made up of Orthodox Jews -- voted in favor of Trump, which led some residents of those precincts to tell of their fear that Brennan had focused his ire on them. Byers served as treasurer for that political action committee and said the new campaign is also called Moving University Heights Forward, although its committee is made up of five different residents than the first.

Earlier on Monday, Byer delivered to Clerk of Council Kelly Thomas, as required by the city’s charter, the recall affidavit on behalf of the PAC, which also consists of residents Beth Backer, Heather Feldman, Malka Frank and Boris Kagarlitskiy. Following the meeting, Byer stated, “We deeply regret the necessity of this campaign, and call upon the mayor to render it unnecessary by resigning from his position.”

“If we can get those signatures by Dec. 20, we can get the May ballot and save the city $30,000 because we won’t have to call for a special election.”The PAC, however, actually has 100 days to collect enough valid signatures, which means it has until March 12. Reaching the goal in March would mean a special election would be necessary in the summer.
