Thousands of pupils have faced disruption since the start of term, some even being forced to return to virtual learning, as the scale of the dangerous material being used in buildings was revealed.

A further 41 schools have discovered crumbly RAAC concrete in their buildings, bringing the total number affected to 214.

Updating the number of schools affected, Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said in statement to the Mirror today she said: 'As of 16 October, there are 214 education settings with confirmed RAAC in some of their buildings. 'This may involve some remote learning on some days as not all pupils can currently receive full-time face-to-face education.

The crumbling concrete is a lightweight material that was used mostly in flat roofing, but also in floors and walls, between the 1950s and 1990s. Concerns about weaknesses in the material have been around for years.
