Last year two siblings found there was not enough room in the garage after they collected between 1,200-1,500 toys in an annual drive for youngsters staying at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
When Zach and Maddy Rodrigues started a toy drive at their Monee home in 2020, they filled their garage with roughly 350 donated toys. The annual toy drive continued to grow through the next few years, and last year the siblings found there was not enough room in the garage anymore. They’d collected between 1,200-1,500 toys for youngsters staying at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
“More people find it easier to give a monetary donation so when we shop for the toys, we try to make sure every age is represented.” The project got started after toy drives hosted by Zach’s travel baseball team, Prospect Xposure, were put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic. Zach was a freshman and Maddy was an eighth grader at the time and they decided to make up the gap and picked up the bulk of the work. Their parents, Jeremy and Mary, also provide a lot of support for the project.
