Actors Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson will receive a major Disney award this year after the release of their highly anticipated films, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Moana. Disney just announced that Hathaway and Johnson are among the recipients of the 2026 Disney Legends Award, which honors individuals who have had a meaningful impact on the company.
Chris Berman, Jerry Bruckheimer, Susan Egan, Eric Goldberg, Bob Iger, Kim Irvine, Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Alan Tudyk are also being named Disney Legends. The award ceremony, hosted by American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, will take place at 1:30 p.m. PDT on August 16, the final day of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which begins two days prior in Anaheim, California. Audiences who can't make it to the event in person will be able to stream the Disney Legends ceremony on Disney+. In a statement, new Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro said that the Disney Legends Award will celebrate"the legacy of the extraordinary people whose creativity has shaped Disney into what it is today." He added that the 2026 class of Disney Legends has made a huge impact that is"felt in everything we do" at the Mickey House company and beyond. “D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is where we come together to give our incredible fans an early look at what’s coming next across our company, while celebrating the legacy of the extraordinary people whose creativity has shaped Disney into what it is today. It’s an honor to celebrate our Disney Legends — their impact is felt in everything we do and recognizing them alongside the fans who love their work is what makes this event so meaningful.” Hathaway and Johnson follow in the footsteps of past Disney Legends like Julie Andrews, Angela Bassett, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Miley Cyrus, Robert Downey Jr., Harrison Ford, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Jobs, Elton John, Stan Lee, George Lucas, Steve Martin, Alan Menken, Dick Van Dyke, Barbara Walters, Betty White, John Williams, Robin Williams, Oprah Winfrey and Tim Allen. Disney is releasing several movies this year, including The Devil Wears Prada 2, Moana, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Toy Story 5, Super Troopers 3, Hexed, and Avengers: Doomsday. Those first two will star Hathaway and Johnson, respectively. Hathaway's next project is a sequel to the hit film The Devil Wears Prada, which was released in 2006 and grossed $326 million at the box office. With a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score, the dramedy became a pop culture juggernaut with memorable quotes and a star-studded cast that also included Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. After 20 years, Disney is now just weeks away from releasing the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, which will see Hathaway reprise the character of Andy Sachs as she reunites with her former demanding boss, Streep's Miranda Priestly. Along with Blunt and Tucci, the film will also star Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Tracie Thoms, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, and B.J. Novak. Johnson, meanwhile, is about to bring his animated character Maui to life in the upcoming live-action remake of Moana.
