Doubles shuttler Anna Cheong’s luck continues to change for good.
Not only will she be making her return from a one-year injury layoff earlier than expected, Anna has also received the good news that she has qualified for the World Championships from Aug 21-27 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with her partner Teoh Mei Xing.
Anna, who underwent surgery for a rupture in the anterior cruciate ligament in her right leg last November, was scheduled to play in the China Open from Sept 5-10 in Changzhou but they will now get to compete in the world meet first after being promoted from the women’s doubles reserves list. “I only got to know that Mei Xing and I qualified for the world meet this morning and I was quite shocked as I did not expect it,” said Anna.Anna admitted, though, that it had not been easy for her to keep her spirits up when she was on the sidelines.“The duration was so long that it was challenging for me to stay positive.Mei Xing chipped in and said: “It feels like fate as one of our last tournaments together was the world meet last year .
“So, it’s quite unique that we will be back together in this tournament. I feel so happy to get this opportunity.”“We need to give her some time to get back the tournament feeling as she has not competed in such a long time,” said Mei Xing.The other pairs in the world meet are world No. 11 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and independent pair Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien .
