AnimEigo, a pioneer in English-language anime distribution, has a new owner. Justin, the new custodian, discusses the transition and his plans for the company.

AnimEigo is a significant part of anime history outside of Japan. It was one of the first official distributors, laying the groundwork for the industry. Taking over a company like AnimEigo is a challenging task, and Justin, the new owner, shares how the deal came about. He was working on a documentary about the English-speaking anime industry and interviewed D.K. at Otakon. During the interview, D.K. revealed his plans for retirement and asked Justin if he'd be interested in taking over.

Justin, honored by the offer, worked with Natsumi, who managed the daily operations, to figure out the details. Seven months later, they signed the agreement. Justin acknowledges that running AnimEigo is demanding, with a lot to be done. He praises his incredible staff for their support. Justin highlights that AnimEigo will continue to work with Discotek, but will also focus on its own unique direction. The company plans to take risks on titles Discotek might not and prioritize marketing individual titles, as big anime projects are currently out of their reach. Finding hidden gems is part of AnimEigo's identity. They also aim to produce more bonus material whenever possible. Justin is excited about building up AnimEigo and has plans for the next few years
