Shareholder proposal by Accountability Board calls on Biglari Holdings’ Steak n Shake to disclose policies for better treatment of animals in its supply chain.
Steak n Shake, the burger chain owned by San Antonio -based Biglari Holdings Inc. , is again being called upon to develop and disclose policies intended to improve the treatment of animals in its supply chain. Massachusetts -based nonprofit the Accountability Board made the request in a shareholder proposal that has the backing of two influential shareholder advisory firms that counsel institutional investors, but it’s likely doomed to fail.
Today, all major restaurant chains essentially adhere to certain standards for managing the treatment of animals in their supply chains, Prescott said. Many even devote attention to the subject on their websites. For example, McDonald’s said it achieved its commitment to using 100% cage-free eggs at the end of 2023 — two years ahead of schedule.
