ANIAK, Alaska - The Aniak Junior Senior High School portion of the Aniak Schools Building is closed due to structural concerns, according to the The school district said all students in grades 6–12 will report to the Auntie Mary Nicholai Elementary School side of the building.
Families and staff will receive communication regarding next steps, student placement and other issues. “We recognize this is difficult news for the Aniak community,” the district said in a statement. “We are committed to transparent communication and to working closely with families, staff and partners as we move forward.” On Wednesday, the Kuspuk School District determined there has not been a total structural failure, but due to active structural degradation, specific areas of the building have been identified as being in imminent danger by the“Our goals are to complete the controlled demolition as quickly as possible and preserve the Auntie Mary Nicoli Elementary School portion of the facility,” the districtThe community hall will serve as the emergency meeting and relocation site. Students and staff will be transported to the community hall using the current school bus and the student activity van . The district is working to have a second bus prepared. No traffic will be permitted on the school road.
