The Fall Brawl runs through Dec. 8, and the Walleye Slam derby ends on Dec. 1.
Steelhead trout are a bonus catch on Lake Erie from the waters around Cleveland Harbor in the autumn. This trout was one of many caught on Monday by Sam Horn of Mayfield Heights in the Gordon Park area.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lake Erie continues to slowly cool down, with the Western and Central basins finally sinking below the 60 degree mark. Anglers are hoping their lures will now begin catching trophy walleye in the popular fishing derbies that yet have a month to go.
The winner of both derbies a year ago was Ryan Smith of Olmsted Falls with a 12.54-pound walleye, caught just outside of the Cleveland Harbor break wall while trolling lures at midnight on a Friday, Nov. 24. Cleveland Harbor has been a steelhead hot spot, and with the brisk south winds this past week, fishing guides Sam Horn and Michal “Moke” Mochan have both scored all week by staying close to shore to ward off the quite brisk southerly breezes.
