Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington defends his decision to walk Shohei Ohtani and pitch to Mookie Betts.
Tuesday was tied 2-2 through nine innings, pushing the game into extra innings. The Dodgers took the lead in the top of the 10th inning when the automatic runner on second, Tommy Edman, scored on a single from Miguel Rojas.
Angels manager Ron Washington insisted after the game that the decision was no slight to Betts, but instead about what Ohtani can do.. "I wasn’t going to let Ohtani swing there, and I have all the respect in the world for Mookie Betts. I was hoping Contreras could make a pitch, get a ground ball, and get us a double play and keep the game at . First pitch, he left in the middle of the plate and up, and Mookie didn’t miss it. That’s what he get paid for.
