Jimmy Herget allows three runs on homers on consecutive pitches in the seventh, snapping a 1-1 tie. Reid Detmers escapes a jam to get through six innings, allowing one run.
ARLINGTON, Texas — A nice performance by Reid Detmers was erased within a span of a couple minutes with Jimmy Herget on the mound.
Bullpen performances like that have been rare during the Angels resurgence this month, but the relievers have been worked so much that some of their most reliable arms were unavailable. This time Detmers held the Rangers to just a solo homer over five innings, facing exactly 18 batters.
