Mike Trout, Hunter Renfroe and Luis Rengifo hit home runs in the Angels’ come-from-behind victory.

ANAHEIM ― The Angels played a game Saturday in which the top four hitters in the lineup clobbered three home runs, drove in five, and reached base 12 times in all. The 5-through-9 hitters went hitless in 18 at-bats.The Angels benefitted from a balanced attack in their 9-5 win Saturday before an announced sell-out crowd of 44,534 at Angel Stadium.

After years of seeing the best efforts of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani go to waste for lack of lineup depth, Saturday’s formula for victory was one the Angels can only hope to replicate. Hunter Renfroe, batting fifth, and Luis Rengifo, batting eighth, each hit a home run to aid in the Angels’ comeback from an early 4-0 deficit. It was the first home run of 2023 for both.

Trout’s third home run of the season had the biggest impact. Batting with a 5-4 deficit in the fifth inning, Trout hammered an 84-mph fastball from submariner Adam Cimber over the left-center field fence for a three-run home run, giving the Angels a 7-5 lead they would not relinquish.
