Ohtani pitched just two innings before an 85-minute rain delay ended his day on the mound. Five relievers combined for the final seven innings to hold the lead.
BOSTON — The Angels held on for a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on a day that the weather cost them their best pitcher and their manager chose to rest two of their key hitters.
This time they at least had ace Shohei Ohtani on the mound, but even that didn’t last for long. Ohtani pitched just two innings before an 85-minute rain delay ended his day as a pitcher. Without those key hitters, the Angels still scored four runs in the first inning, three on Hunter Renfroe’s fourth homer of the season and one on Brandon Drury’s sacrifice fly.
