Daily News | Angelo Cataldi will air his final WIP sports radio broadcast this week
WIP brand manager Rod Lakin said the station will send off its longtime star with a career retrospective and visits from old friends, according to the Business Journal.
At 71, Cataldi, a former Inquirer reporter, has long been one of the most dominant radio voices in the city. A love-him-or-hate-him pundit, his morning screeds have a loyal following that includes daily commuters, athletes, and even begrudging head coaches. WIP, which broadcasts both Eagles and Phillies games, has enjoyed an advertising boom between the Eagles’ explosive postseason and Cataldi’s final shows.
“I don’t think even someone as creative as Angelo could have scripted a better finish than the Eagles facing Andy Reid in the Super Bowl during his final chapter at WIP,” David Scopinich, vice president of sales for Audacy in Philadelphia, which owns WIP, told the Business Journal.Cataldi’s longtime cohost Al Morganti, who has been on air since the 1990s,
