Work has begun in only around half of the buildings identified in England as having dangerous cladding seven years since the Grenfell fire

The second phase of the public inquiry into the inferno which claimed 72 lives when it tore through the west London tower block in 2017 will this week publish its conclusions on just, allowing the fire to spread with devastating speed. The report will provide recommendations with the aim of ensuring such a tragedy can never happen again.
Matt Wrack, general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, said: “It is a national disgrace that hundreds of thousands of people are still living in homes wrapped in flammable cladding. To begin to address the building safety crisis, the Government must commit to reversing the deregulation of the building sector, and to putting the building control and inspection regime back into public hands.
“People should not be waiting years for work to remove dangerous cladding to even start – and it should go without saying that fire safety should be a central priority for those buildings yet to start remediation work. This is mission critical for me. I will end the foot-dragging we have seen since Grenfell.
