Dunblane icon Sir Andy Murray is set for a golden goodbye in Paris after he announced this week that he will retire following the Olympics.
The two-time Olympic champion shared the update with his millions of social media followers this week in which he revealed that representing Team GB has been a highlight of his glittering career.
Murray claimed the gold medal at his home games in London in 2012 and made it a double as he claimed the title once more in Rio in 2016 – becoming the first tennis player to ever win back-to-back singles gold medals at the Olympics.The 37-year-old is set to compete in the men’s singles, as well as being nominated in the men’s doubles alongside Dan Evans.
Last week, the two-time Wimbledon champ revealed that he had gone under the knife to treat a bothersome back injury between Queen’s Club and the start of Wimbledon. His Wimbledon disappointment was compounded when he and mixed doubles partner Emma Raducanu withdrew, with Raducanu citing a wrist injury as the reason.He was given an emotional tribute by the BBC on Centre Court after his doubles defeat to mark the end of his Wimbledon career.Upon announcing his retirement, he was inundated with good wishes from fans and famous faces.
